Life During the Great Depression
By 1932, there were 13 million people unemployed in America. Rural America suffered the most. Children ages 10 to 18 were forced to work in mines, factories, and fields, neglecting school, in order to supply for their families. Middle class families managed to keep their homes by keeping a very close watch on their spending. Farmers could barely pay their workers because no one bought anything, so no one had any money. Farmers eventually lost their homes, and lived very sad lives.
